CHAPERONES: Who are the Chaperones?
TRANSPORTATION: What are the driving/transportation arrangements?
COST: How much does it cost?
LOCAL STUDENTS: We live near the Honor Band location and don't need a hotel. What registration options are for us?
HOUSING: Can our entire family stay in the hotel room, even though just 1 child is in Honor Band?
HOUSING: Can we split the cost of a room with another family?
PARTICIPATION: How do you get invited to the Honor Band Tour?
ATTENDANCE: Our child can not participate on these dates... what now?
- At least one chaperone from each school represented is required to attend and be present to supervise their students. Your child's AIMA music teacher cannot be a chaperone, as they have their own responsibilities running the event. Most of the time, one or both of the child's parents accompanies them on the tour and serves as their chaperone. It has also worked well for one school teacher to attend and be responsible for several students.
TRANSPORTATION: What are the driving/transportation arrangements?
- Chaperones will be responsible to drive students to and from their performances and activity locations.
COST: How much does it cost?
- We price this event so that all students can attend (this is not a money-making event). The 3-day event (including some meals, snacks, teacher fee, and a t-shirt) costs the student $115 to attend. All other costs are hotel, food, and activity related. See the registration page for specific details.
LOCAL STUDENTS: We live near the Honor Band location and don't need a hotel. What registration options are for us?
- Several! The full registration is still available without adding on hotel rooms. If your situation is even more unique, contact the AIMA office: we want to make sure everyone can participate!
HOUSING: Can our entire family stay in the hotel room, even though just 1 child is in Honor Band?
- Absolutely. When you register for a room, it is yours to use however you'd like.
HOUSING: Can we split the cost of a room with another family?
- Certainly. That's one of the best ways to make this trip the most cost-effective! You can work that out with someone else from your school who's attending, or contact the AIMA office for assistance.
PARTICIPATION: How do you get invited to the Honor Band Tour?
- Honor Band nominations are determined in part by students' Solo/Ensemble performance, attitude, and recommendation from their music teacher. Students desiring to qualify for Honor Band should be prepared to play song #133 (Ach! Du Lieber Augustine - German Folk Song) on page 29 of their Standard of Excellence Book, or a more difficult selection, PLUS two full-octave scales (students' choice).
ATTENDANCE: Our child can not participate on these dates... what now?
- No worries: your child is still to be commended for being named to the All-State Honor Band, will be listed as an Honor Band student, and will receive a certificate for that achievement. This is an honor for each student's hard work, and can even be listed on College Applications as a personal & educational achievement!
